Statement on Sustainability and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Respect (EDIR)

The British Academy of Management exists to promote excellence in business and management studies. We believe teaching and research in our community should contribute to a sustainable future for the benefit of all.

This is reflected in our strategic priorities, which include ambitions to advance Sustainability and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Respect (EDIR) in our work.

This commitment is also consistent with our obligations as a registered charity. The Charity Governance Code expects us to identify and reduce barriers to equality, diversity and inclusion. In this, as in all areas, the Code sets a high standard that we strive to uphold.

With the changing political and economic climate, many of our members are concerned that achievements in Sustainability and EDIR may not last and that new obstacles are emerging. Financial uncertainty in the HE sector adds to the pressures faced by our community. This can make the work of promoting these causes seem both more urgent and harder to achieve.

There are still many reasons to be optimistic. Sustainability and EDIR have been calls to action to the business and management studies community. They have stimulated creative and rigorous scholarship and practice intended to challenge assumptions and realise new possibilities.

We are immensely proud of the contributions that our community has made to further Sustainability and EDIR. Robust scholarly responses to these challenges are evident in the content of our journals, The International Journal of Management Reviews and The British Journal of Management.

This is also reflected in the work of our Special Interest Groups and our numerous events, particularly our annual conference. Through publications like The BAM Guide to Decolonising the Business School Curriculum, we support and celebrate the efforts of our community.

For the benefit of our members and our community, the British Academy of Management will continue to promote sustainability, be inclusive, and promote excellence in all we do.
