I believe that in addition to my experience of teaching financial management in HE business schools, my leadership experience will help other business schools to deliver effective and engaging programmes.
I am also closely involved with one of the main CCAB accounting bodies and a member of their examining team. I have been on the examining team of one other CCAB body and worked with two more. Many business school students who study financial management aspire to become qualified accountants. My experience with the examining bodies will enable me to work with the SIG to enable business schools to shape their programmes such that they are relevant to the modern accounting profession.

I am writing to nominate myself for the role of Diversity Officer of the BAM Financial Management SIG. As Director of Research at the Faculty of Business and Law, Anglia Ruskin University, I bring extensive experience in academia, entrepreneurship, and industry, aligning closely with the SIG’s objectives.
Having benefited greatly from BAM events, I am very keen to give back to the BAM community. I’ve been conducting interdisciplinary research in financial management and management fields, and have a proven track record of publishing in top journal articles on topics, including corporate finance, entrepreneurial finance, accounting and finance, financial economics, Fintech, innovation and leadership, etc. Having supervised thirteen doctorate completions, I bring expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Beyond academia, I’ve actively shared my knowledge through funded projects, executive training, and industry collaborations.
In addition, I have substantial experience engaging with diverse stakeholders, including researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and communities through events organisation and knowledge exchange. My role on the REF advisory board and two research centers focused on inclusive economy and advanced computing further demonstrate my commitment to driving impactful research and fostering inclusive practices.
As an inclusive leader, I champion diversity, equity and belonging within research communities as part of my director role. With extensive experience supporting underrepresented groups, I’ve fostered inclusive environments that empower individuals to thrive. I am confident that my inclusive leadership approach, expertise and passion will contribute meaningfully to the Financial Management SIG and beyond, enriching the SIG’s diversity and impact.

If elected, I plan to play a vital role in strengthening the presence of the BAM Finance SIG on a global basis via collaboration with my contacts and network, mostly in the US and some in South Asia. My connections cover a broad spectrum from academics to luminaries on the corporate side in financial services. I will utilize my network with a view to boosting the SIG’s outreach and membership base to foster a vibrant global community.
Apart from the routine activities of global engagement, exchange of knowledge base - both in terms of type and extent – across the globe, and some form of generic events planning, I also believe the role is critical in contributing to the strategic plan of the SIG along the global plain. This would entail, but not just limited to, apprising the SIG Chair of the emergent trends across the globe in research and practice.
Of course, I am member of the august British Academy of Management and have been since 2021. I have regularly contributed to the annual conferences since then by way of Full Paper presentations and have assumed the role of Session Chair the last two years. I am a hybrid in that I am a practitioner as well as an adjunct professor of Finance, which I believe serves as a virtuous cycle in both my roles, each reinforcing the other. I hope to be able to, if fortunate enough to be elected, replicate my successes in the present roles as a critical member of the Finance SIG.

The candidate can promote international exposure of BAM in North America through various scholar activities that enhance cross-border collaboration and knowledge exchange. Given her specialty in corporate finance and network with North American researchers in the field, the candidate can facilitate research collaborations, joint seminars, and symposiums that bring global financial experts to the venue. These events would not only highlight North American financial exposure but also create avenues for international researchers to share insights, explore market trends, and embrace opportunities to collaborate to publish in high-impact international finance journals.
