Exploring the acceptance of Social Media: a Set-Theoretic Analysis Approach (215)
Author/s: Federico Iannacci Colm Fearon Kristine Pole
Track: e-Business and e-Government
Paper Type: Developmental Papers
Keywords: Qualitative Comparative Analysis, Configurational Theory, Small-and-Medium Enterprises, Social Media, Technology Acceptance
Abstract: This developmental paper aims to unravel the causal complexity associated with acceptance and non-acceptance of social media by Small and Medium Enterprise SMEs users. The paper uses a quasi experimental design logic based on the analysis of multiple cases with each case replicating prior findings either literally literal replication or theoretically theoretical replication. The study uses some early survey data informed by an innovative, set theoretic approach to distil commonalities within the same types of cases and differences across distinct types of cases. The paper shows the causal asymmetry between acceptance and non acceptance of social media. While customer attraction, raising the companies profile and learning to use social media effortlessly lead to the acceptance of social media, non acceptance requires finding social media not easy to use in combination with a lack of improvement of customer relations and work not becoming easier to do. The paper uses purposive sampling and self reported measures which undermine the generalizability of its findings. Future research should use probability sampling and more objective measures drawing on prior exploratory research. Theoretical, practical, and methodological implications are discussed by highlighting the commonalities across positive and negative configurations of acceptance and emphasizing the key role that being a learning organization plays in a context of continuous updates and burgeoning volumes of data.

Author/s: Karina Kholodova
Track: e-Business and e-Government
Paper Type: Developmental Papers
Keywords: N/A
Abstract: This research aims to shed more light on the conceptualisation of Customer Engagement (CE) and its antecedents, and consequences, in relation to social media brand content. A behavioural, consumer-centric perspective framework is proposed based on the COBRA model of online brand content engagement. The uniqueness of the proposed framework lies within a cross-country comparison between Russia and the UK, both at different stages of social media brand development. In order to achieve the objectives of the research, a mixed-methods approach will be adopted using social media content analysis and an online survey. From a theoretical perspective, this research extends the application of the COBRA on Customer Engagement behaviour in social media. From a managerial perspective, this research recommends a model of antecedents and consequences of engagement to enable an effective relationship between customers and the online brand.

Paper Type: Developmental Papers
Keywords: Blockchain, Digital Innovation, e-Business, Securities, Finance
Abstract: The blockchain technology is allowing investment products to be available in digital format recorded on a blockchain. Representation of such regulated investment products on a blockchain are termed Security Tokens. Security Tokens can be transferred between parties without requiring trusted third parties and be programmed with certain rules. In this paper we first look at the process of issuance and distribution of investment product to investors in a traditional security format. We then explore how issuance of security tokens can improve the current system. Finally, we survey the major projects, theoretical concepts and empirical experiments, that have been put forward for potential uses of security tokens. This paper will serve as the first comprehensive paper to survey all concepts developed to date on ways security tokens can be designed and utilized. This addressed a large gap in existing academic literature and lays the foundations for further research.

Track: e-Business and e-Government
Paper Type: Developmental Papers
Abstract: This study is under taken to discuss and analyze the impact of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) model in the SMEs sector. While the scope of BYOD is quite large, we are looking into the SMEs sector with focus on the Leather, Surgical, Sports and Apparel firms in the Sialkot region of Pakistan.
Sialkot has around seven thousand five hundred SMEs involved in the Leather, Surgical, Sports and Apparel products. All products manufactured are of export quality and mostly shipped to Western Europe and North America.
Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology or UTAUT is taken as the foundation of our work and to support the argument of BYOD in the SMEs. While the concept is new in has been tested in the developed world as something working successful we are looking the impact of BYOD into the family owned firms in four export oriented businesses i.e Leather, Surgical, Sports and Apparel.
As the starting point we have involved seventy nine middle and senior managers from Sialkot region to study the impact of BYOD. Job Satisfaction, Productivity and work flexibility are the variables we have studied in this paper. Since family owned businesses are very closed to outside world the response we received from the respondents is quite low. One hundred seventy five experts were contacted and only seventy nine responded to request to complete the questionnaire.
Results have been very convincing and study shows the strong impact of BYOD on the organizational sustainability.
