Abstract: Based on a comparative content analysis of the newspaper coverage in the UK, Switzerland, Germany and France from 2000 to 2018, we explore change in the institutional environments in which family offices, one of the most central family business advisors, are embedded. Our findings reveal minor regulatory changes affecting family offices in Germany and France. Major changes are discernible in Switzerland and the UK. They are driven by legal pressures from abroad and the internationalization of wealthy families. We observe an increase in the formation of globally operating multi-family offices with expertise in multiple disciplines and jurisdictions, especially in the UK and Switzerland. Despite dedicated initiatives, the perception of the family office as a secretive organization and an ill-defined concept hardly changes. Overall, the extent and causes of institutional change differ across countries.

Abstract: We integrate insights from the psychological concept of scarcity mindset with research on mix embeddedness to theorize ethnic venture failure. Empirically, we draw on field interviews with UK based ethnic entrepreneurs to theorise the cause of death of their failed business ventures. Providing discursive interpretations of the feelings, beliefs, cognitions and choices of ethnic entrepreneurs in reconciling mutually constituting entrepreneurial demands in organizing, our study adds to previous work by finding that having too little resources stymies the conversion of potentialities and limits into productive outcomes. The scarcity mindset which emerges from our study suggest that the constraints of having too little could lead four salient organizing tensions faced by ethnic entrepreneurs spatial spawning, ethnic embeddedness, dispositional optimism, and service nepotism, which may operate in combination or serially, and in turn precipitate the demise of their businesses.

Abstract: Well being is of particular importance for business founders as they are known to suffer from stress associating with running their own businesses. Integrating self determination theory and job crafting theory, this study contributes to the scant knowledge on hedonic well being (such as career and life satisfaction) of small and medium sized enterprise founders despite an increasing interest in examining antecedents of well being in the area of entrepreneurship. Specifically, we provide new insights into the relationship between entrepreneurial passion on career and life satisfaction of SME founders through job crafting, work life interference and work life enhancement. Using structural equation modelling, the findings from the data of 404 SME founders in Vietnam show that those who exhibited a high level of entrepreneurial passion tended to be more satisfied with their career and lives.

Keywordscrowdfundingtrustinstitutional trustcase study

Abstract: While trust has already been recognised in the literature as an apt lens to analyse business relationships, there is still scholarly dispute over what form of trust may be the most applicable for different phenomena within these. This missing clarity becomes especially apparent in socio economic contexts that incorporate multiple individuals as well as organisations with a complex interplay on different levels. In order to shed new light on the different forms of trust, their aptness and interplay we offer an in-depth and longitudinal case study of the crowdfunding campaign of the unicorn-startup Monzo as digital bank in the United Kingdom. We collected 132 documents, interviews and blogposts from 2015 to the end of 2018. With our coding we confirm previous literature that trust does indeed play an important role throughout the different phases of crowdfunding but what emerges as new is the importance of institutional societal level trust that takes on a crucial role especially in the early as well as the later stages of a crowdfunding campaign as catalyst for other forms of trust. With such findings we contribute to trust literature by highlighting the importance of level spanning, dynamic institutional perspectives in socio economic contexts and to a more successful crowdfunding practice.

Abstract: Traditional SME internationalisation research is mainly conducted in developed countries. The potential of SME family firms in emerging economies, regardless of their substantial contribution to economic growth, have generally been ignored by research. This study tries to provide a link between returnee entrepreneurs, SME internationalisation and family firms based on the evidence from China. The findings reveal that the human capital of returnee entrepreneurs, such as international education background, international working experience, and management know how positively influence the internationalisation of family SMEs. However, the influence of human capital brought by returnee entrepreneurs to the family firms internationalisation is indirect, through new management. Returnee entrepreneurs need a readjustment period to adapt overseas human capital to Chinese market circumstances. This study also found that a born again global pathway can be an indirect result of the second-generation returnee entrepreneurs human capital.

Abstract: As the field of sustainable entrepreneurship is relatively new, this research aims to explore the opportunity identification process leading to the creation of sustainable businesses. We also intend to explore respondents perception and prioritisation of stakeholders. Based on young entrepreneurs in two distinct locations Liverpool and Macau we examine how their narratives fit with various theories associated with sustainable entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial opportunity identification and effectuation. The preliminary finding show that entrepreneurs engage in the effectual process during opportunity development. Bootstrapping strategies and effective utilisation of social capital play important role in the process. Prior entrepreneurial knowledge and sustainability related knowledge were commonly possessed by these entrepreneurs. The finding also suggest that the entrepreneurs have a narrow perception of their stakeholder network and their impact on those stakeholders. However, many show altruistic attitudes towards others and perceive environmental issues as a threat to human-kind. Implications for policies are proposed to stimulate the growth of more sustainable business in Liverpool and Macau.

KeywordsOrganisational OrientationsFinancial CapitalSMEs Performance.

Abstract: Recent studies suggest that resource-based capabilities such as entrepreneurial orientation (EO), learning orientation (LO) and market orientations (MO) individually as well as jointly improve small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) performance. This study suggests that each of these orientations has positive relationships with SMEs performance. However, the level of SMEs access to financial capital influences these relationships. This study underpins the resource-based view approach to synthesise the key issues in SME performance. The theoretical analysis shows that all three organisational orientations and financial capital enhance firm performance. However, firms need financial resources to be organisationally oriented. Since, SMEs have limited access to finance resources, their ability to achieve organisational orientations may be limited and ultimately restrict them to grow and enhance their performance. Thus, this study suggests that financial capital influences the relationships between organisational orientations and SMEs performance.

Abstract: Historically, there exist three periods of organizational design (OD) among entrepreneurial firms in China, i.e., low-level-government intervention (LGI) period, high-level-government intervention (HGI) one, and balanced-government intervention (BGI) one. In the BGI period since 1979, one has seen a rapid growth of entrepreneurial firms in China as well as many successful firms, such as Huawei, Tencent, and Alibaba. Studying this interesting development in a developing country such as China, we question a traditional view that government intervention in OD is always hindrance to the success of entrepreneurial ventures. Adopting a perspective of yin/yang balance, we propose a yin/yang perspective/model to add novel understanding of the success of entrepreneurial ventures in emerging economies.

Abstract: Over the past few decades, Resource-based view RBV has emerged as a critical theory explaining firm performance. Since the early 1990s, many studies have explored RBVs claim that there is a positive relationship between firms strategic resources and their performance. Though Information and Communication Technology ICT is considered a strategic resource for organizations, the existing literature on ICT and Firm Performance Relationship report heterogeneous outcomes depending on different ICT tools general purpose technologies and enabling technologies. This heterogeneity in outcomes necessitates a meta analysis to comprehend the direction and the scope of the relationship between ICT and firm performance. Besides, whether the ICT and firm performance relationship depends on the status of the ICT development status of a country or not is not apparent in the existing literature. To address this research gap, this meta analysis combines the results of more than twenty years of research on how the presence of ICT development context of different countries impacts the relationship between ICT and firm performance. Thus, this meta analysis synthesizes the existing literature on this topic by analysing 106 studies with a total of 271527 observations, and therefore, adds value to the empirical and theory driven research in the field of Strategic Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurial eco-system, and Business Performance.

Abstract: From an institutional theory perspective, this study investigates the combined impact of financial capital (microcredit) and human capital development (entrepreneurship training) delivered by Financial Non-Governmental Organisations (FNGOs) on the performance of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in Ghana. Adopting a multiple linear regression analysis, the study uses primary data collected from 506 Ghanaian MSEs who are engaged in various economic activities. The results of this study show that the combined delivery of financial and human capital development by FNGOs has a significant impact on MSE performance. Secondly, the social welfare logic adopted by FNGOs seems to be responsive to the needs and growth of MSEs in Ghana. However, the cost of microcredit remains a drawback to the performance of MSEs in Ghana. Also, employment decisions by MSEs might not be based solely on the profitability and growth of the enterprises. However, other socially-oriented reasons are responsible.

Abstract: Development, prosperity and sustainable livelihoods in Africa requires knowledge generation, adaptation and transmission. This paper argues that technology entrepreneur gatekeepers can become potent conduits for the transmission of new knowledge and technology within clusters, particularly in developing economies. Yet, most research in the context of the Sub-Saharan African region overlook the role of entrepreneur gatekeepers working with the small formal and informal sector enterprises. This study therefore addresses this knowledge gap through a qualitative empirical study of two food processing clusters in Ghana. Gatekeepers are identified as those entrepreneurs who decodify the codified knowledge while also bringing in tacit knowledge that can be shared throughout a cluster. The informal nature of the African economy shapes these processes with key relationships being based on personal trust rather than written agreements, and institutional weaknesses limiting the rigorous implementation of intellectual property right law allowing micro enterprise artisan engineers to freely adapt technology.

KeywordsKEY WORDS: InforpreneurshipYouth restivenessCreativity

Abstract: The study examined inforpreneurship as a panacea for curbing youth restiveness in Nigeria. The aim of this study generally was to investigate how engaging in inforpreneurial activities can curb youth restiveness in Nigeria. Five research questions and five hypotheses guided the study The study is anchored on the Media richness theory MRT propounded by Richard L Daft and Robert Lengel in 1986. Media richness theory MRT, sometimes referred to as Information richness theory.is a framework used to describe a communication mediums ability to reproduce the information sent over it. MRT is used specifically to evaluate the richness of certain communication media, such as phone calls, video conferencing, and email. Based on contingency theory and information processing theory, MRT explains that richer personal communication mediums are generally more effective for communicating equivocal issues in contrast with leaner, less rich media. Media richness theory relies on information processing theory for its theoretical foundation. It adopted a combination of descriptive correlation and cross sectional type of research design. Since the population is infinite, the population was drawn from youths from different geopolitical zones in Nigeria. The Multistage sampling technique was used in selecting respondents for the study. While the respondents consist of 450 male and female self-employed youths in Nigeria. Key Instrument for the study is a 24 item researchers designed questionnaire which was validated by experts in entrepreneurship especially Information Managers while the reliability index of 0.72 was obtained using the test-retest method. It found that creativity is a hall mark for inforpreneurship. As such, if Nigerian youths can imbibe and apply creative mindset, curbing youth restiveness would be achieved to a very large extent. It therefore recommend that Nigeria youths need to embrace inforpreneurship businesses for sustainable income. The government of Nigeria should empower youths towards engaging in inforpreneurship businesses.

Abstract: In uncertain times, the ability to anticipate and plan for adversity is vital for businesses in general, and small businesses in particular, which may have fewer resources to help them bounce back from an unanticipated crisis. This research sheds light on the relationship between an entrepreneurs individual resilience and the resilience planning practices of their firm. To interrogate this link, this study uses the Connor Davidson risk scale and a data set of 9755 micro businesses, with between 1 and 9 employees, in Great Britain, United States and Northern Ireland. We find a significant relationship between individual resilience and firm level resilience planning strategies, suggesting that developing an individual leaders resilience may be a route to resilience in their firms. Micro business leaders in the service sector and in the United States appear less likely to translate their personal resilience into a business resilience strategy in their firms, a finding which merits further investigation.

Abstract: The debate surrounding what entrepreneurship means within developing countries DCs context continues, exacerbating uncertainty and complexity in implementation. EEs novelty within a DC Higher Education Institutions HEI context means that quality delivery remains a chronic problem. Following on from these emergent issues, this paper aims to uncover issues surrounding the implementation of a programme of EE delivery at a DC HEI. Using the case study research methodology, empirical research is undertaken at a prominent HEI in Indonesia, considered an EE pioneer. Data is collected through both indepth interviews and a survey with stakeholders of the case HEIs entrepreneurship development program to uncover a 360 degree stakeholder driven perspective of expectations, challenges and values. Outcomes suggest that entrepreneurship development at the case site has not been able to achieve the expectations of its stakeholders and has been generally unable to capture its intended objectives. Thus, recommendations for further entrepreneurship development were put forth and validated by key decision makers.

Abstract: Although the reason why regulatory focus affects opportunity recognition has been explored, we are still unclear about how its underlying influencing mechanism works. To address this void, based on experiential learning theory, we used a sample of 237 project leaders from high-tech firms and explored the relationship between regulatory focus and opportunity recognition in the context of new product development projects, as well as the potential mediating role of ambidextrous learning. The results illustrate that promotion focus positively affects opportunity recognition through three paths. The first one is the direct path, and the two indirect paths are via explorative learning and exploratory learning, respectively. Besides, prevention focus affects opportunity recognition directly and also via the mediator of exploratory learning. Furthermore, insignificant hypotheses have been clarified, namely prevention focus has no effect on exploitative learning, and thus exploitative learning does not mediate the relationship between prevention focus and opportunity cognition.

Abstract: The challenge of building and sustaining high performance organization and operationalising logistics and supply chain system during economic recession and insecurity in Nigeria has been a concern for many organisations especially media firms. Whilst entrepreneurship exploits every challenge as an opportunity, innovation in Information and Communication Technologies ICTs has brought about a remarkable change in executing majority of business activities, the management of transport system and media firms. The continual existence of these firms depends to a large extent on the utilization of information made available through various social media to compete favourably in the market environment. Despite recent researches on social networks, little is known about social networks influence on media firms sustainability. Hence, this study investigates the influence of social networks on media firms sustainability in Minna metropolis. The study focuses on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, based on social network theory. Three null hypotheses were developed and tested at P0.05 level of significance. The primary data was used in the study through the survey monkey to 100 marketing employees across 10 registered media organizations on the population frame. A census based method was employed sine the population is not so large in order to have a robust result. Abstract: Serial entrepreneurship is increasingly gaining remarkable research attention partly due to its potential contribution to economic development and wider societal change. In spite of the growing body of serial entrepreneurship research, there has been a lack of understanding of the current state of scholarly knowledge on the phenomenon. As the serial entrepreneurial research is increasingly growing in magnitude, there has been a limited understanding about the current state of knowledge on this pivotal subject. This unfortunate state of affairs stem from a fast growing body of literature which has not necessarily translate into improved understanding of key issues. Based on an integrative review of the literature, we developed a multilevel model of serial entrepreneurship, which captures the various philosophical and theoretical aspects as well as antecedents, transition process, moderators and outcomes. The review identified persistent themes in the literature which help to clarify the ambiguities surrounding the serial entrepreneurial phenomenon. The authors provide recommendations for future research that employs multi-paradigmatic and systematic research methodologies to generate a more comprehensive and cohesive theory of serial entrepreneurship.

Abstract: Studies of female entrepreneurship have focused on the structural rather than normative barriers to entrepreneurship engagement. The study adopts a sequential mixed method approach to explore the latter. First, we found that, through our interaction term, a perceived higher resource availability has a little additional effect on womens entrepreneurial intention. Then, through qualitative research on women without resource constraints, we found that normative barriers can be manifested through different people within the womens life spheres, affecting how they interpret the meaning of entrepreneurship and subsequently their entrepreneurial intentions. Our study contributes to the literature by examining the new intersectionality of gender, family status, and culture, by focusing on a previously little researched group of a middle class female in the developing countries context.
