This webinar brings together two resource persons who will engage in a leadership discourse that is informed by theory and practice. They will be providing more insights on how coaching is instrumental in leadership development.
Both our ability to lead, and the manner by which we do it, rests on three factors: Our deeply seated personality traits, the skills we can learn, and our reflections on previous experiences (Church, 2014; Doh, 2003; Leithwood et al., 2003). Our view of what counts as professional experience tends to lean towards that which is pertinent or relevant to the leadership role we hold.
Dewey (1933) noted that we do not learn from experience, we learn from reflecting on experience, and the process of coaching can help make explicit some of the key experiences we have had throughout our lives, helping to draw from the lessons we have learned to inform our current practice. Good leaders are frequently good coaches also, drawing out the best in those who work with and for them.
This webinar brings together two resource persons who will engage in a leadership discourse that is informed by theory and practice. They will be providing more insights on how coaching is instrumental in leadership development. Most importantly, our seasoned experts will deliver this interactive session, encouraging both questions and discussion from and between all involved.

Senior Lecturer, MBA and MSc Leadership and Management Practice, Liverpool John Moores University
Paul has been fortunate to have held a range of leadership roles, from early-stage to executive, in a variety of contexts which include the third sector. Following a part-time Master’s in Coaching and Mentoring, he completed a part-time PhD in middle leadership development within the education sector whilst working full-time as a schoolteacher. Since 2017, he has both worked freelance as a coach, and worked on the MBA and MSc (Senior Leadership) programmes at Lancaster University Management School. He has recently moved to the Liverpool Business School, Liverpool John Moores University where, as a Senior Lecturer, he delivers on both MBA and Senior Leader MSc programmes. Whilst interested in leadership development at all levels, he is particularly interested in the under-researched area of middle leadership and specifically the forms of experience such leaders draw on to inform their practice.
