Staged by the BAM Inter-Organisational Collaboration (IOC) Special Interest Group
As the world changes rapidly, organizations are increasingly called upon to collaborate on critical societal challenges. Yet management literature often emphasizes competition over cooperation. The IOC track creates a space to explore inter-organizational collaboration by critically examining how partnerships can address social issues-often challenging traditional hierarchical and managerial structures. We focus on collaboration processes, their antecedents and outcomes, and strategies to manage negative externalities when plans falter.
Collaborations among diverse entities-including multinational corporations, state-owned enterprises, and alliances among for-profit, non-profit, and public organizations-are reshaping how organizations influence society. These evolving forms challenge established management frameworks and conventional notions of organizational boundaries.
Expanding our understanding requires embracing pluralistic frameworks that transcend traditional Western or Eastern perspectives. By exploring alternative views, we can develop new insights and refine models to support diverse forms of inter-organizational collaboration, particularly in disrupted institutional contexts.
We hope to support submissions offering insights into management practices for effective collaboration and alternative ways of organizing across boundaries, including critical examinations of existing theories to reshape our understanding for future applications.
