Building on our BAM MKE community-led Edward Elgar Handbook on Inclusive Education that will be published in early 2025, we are now establishing a community of practice for inclusive education, with a particular focus on reducing the awarding gap. The initiative is in response to calls across the sector for greater collaboration to identify and evaluate interventions which have an impact on gaps in continuation, completion and awarding. Business and Management Schools face some unique challenges, including:

  • Interventions must be suitable for implementation at scale
  • There exist persistent awarding gaps between UK and Overseas students in addition to those between home students from different groups
  • Organisational culture may be more difficult to change in a large Business school

We aim through this initiative to develop a community to support members to meet these challenges through the exploration and co-creation of approaches to the reduction of awarding gaps. Four virtual meetings will be held a year to explore specific themes, which will include:

  • Operationalizing a strategic intent to the reduction of award gaps
  • Decolonising and diversifying the curriculum in business and management
  • Approaches to inclusive assessment and feedback appropriate to the discipline and which can be implemented at scale
  • Belonging and mattering for large cohorts
  • Approaches to supporting international students in UK Business Schools

The initiative will also offer opportunities to develop more informal networks across the community.

If you wish to join please contact Sarah Wright at [email protected]. If there is a theme that you are particularly interested in and would like to lead or contribute to the session can you also indicate this in your email.
