Prof Jan Bebbington becomes BAM’s new Vice Chair for Sustainability
BAM’s Executive and Council have agreed to create a new Vice Chair role to drive our work on sustainability. Because the role is new and specific, it also agreed to appoint a senior and eminent professor in the field as the first role holder, although it will be open to election in the future.
We are delighted to announce that Professor Jan Bebbington, Rubin Chair in Sustainability in Business and Director of the Pentland Centre for Sustainability in Business at Lancaster University Management School, has agreed to join the BAM Executive and serve as Vice Chair for Sustainability from now until the end of 2024.
We have created this role to drive the embedding of sustainability awareness and best practice across our activities and community, in the same way that we created the Vice Chair for EDIR 2 years ago, an innovation that has proved very successful. Sustainability is central to a learned society that supports its community. The concept of sustainability can be interpreted not just in terms of our use and consumption of material objects, but additionally in terms of creating a community that is socially strong, administratively stable and resource secure. The planet and our society are inextricably linked and will only flourish if they are in harmony. Sustainability – in all of its forms - underpins the BAM2024 strategy that we developed in 2020.
We very much look forward to working with Professor Bebbington and taking BAM forward as a modern learned society.
