The aim of this special issue is to present the most recent theoretical, practical and policy developments in sustainability-related performance in operations and supply chains. This can be achieved via the following objectives:

  • To provide the state-of-the-art on where we are now, what is missing and what next. This can be done via different types of literature reviews from traditional to systematic to meta-analysis
  • To explore current debates and challenges in a holistic way. This would be to complement and build upon recent advances in sustainability-related performance in the theoretical and practical domains
  • To critically evaluate practices on how organisations are implementing them in their supply chains. This can be done via case studies, workshops, action research and other hands-on interactions with industry, policy makers and stakeholders
  • To draw upon innovative methodologies in both research and practice. This is reflected in the current endeavours of academics and practitioners to tackle this multi-dimensional challenge
  • To promote interdisciplinarity and novel ways of enquiry. This can be done by engaging in inter-disciplinary research and agenda that provide novel perspectives onto the challenge
  • To provide an agenda for future research. This is to inspire future generations of researchers as well as to provide some guidance on the gaps to be filled in the literature and the practical benefits that are expected to derive from this
