The Candidates:

Professor Kirk Chang

Institution: University of East London

Position: Professor & Director for the Centre of Innovation, Management and Enterprise

I am a university professor, consultant, and researcher in the field of Human Resource Management. I received a doctoral degree (Ph.D. Occupational Psychology) from the University of Manchester. Following the first lectureship in 1995, I have worked in both academic and consultancy fields for nearly three decades. I am a Chartered Scientist (CSci, UK), Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol, UK) and have received prestigious fellowship from four professional bodies. These are: Royal Society, Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, British Psychological Society, and Higher Education Academy. In terms of my research interests, I study personnel management issues and analyse the implication of technology on employee behaviour, group dynamics, teamwork, and organizational performance.

I have been a full member of the British Academy of Management (BAM) since 2010 and supported BAM through different channels, such as conference reviewer, presenter, session chair, SIGs activities, application of BAM funds, and other BAM-led initiatives. If elected, I am keen to continue my profession and contribution to a BAM-designated area: Management, Knowledge and Education (MKE). Specifically, in order to support this important, meaningful, but sometimes-neglected area, I am committed to widening and continuing access to education through the community engagement, public colloquiums, and business consultancy.

Professor Andy Charlwood

I am a long time BAM member. After five years of carrying a heavy administrative workload in my own institution as head of department and programme director for a new masters programme, I now have time and space to contribute to the service of the wider community of management scholarship through BAM. I have various experiences: as a journal editor (of Work, Employment and Society), ESRC grant assessment panel member, and conference organiser (I was a founding member of the organising committee for the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development’s Applied Research Conference) which I think could allow me to make a positive contribution to BAM’s ongoing growth and development as a learned society.

Professor Jonathan Liu

Institution: Ming-Ai Institute London

Position: Chairman

Over the last three years I have been Chair of Performance Management SIG and on BAM Council. I have completed my term as SIG Chair and on BAM Council, Academic Affairs of Conference and Capacity Building.  I would like to have a second term with capacity building as BAM has pursuit its capacity building mission with vigour and success over many years. I aim to build on this success and devise an integrated strategy of improving skills of doctoral students, early career researchers, early and mid-career academics.  As well as enhancing capacity, the strategy will assist with attracting and retaining individuals and helping in improving their career opportunities.  I would also work on bodies such as ESRC to establish fellowship schemes with the aim of attracting practicing managers to business schools.  Over the next few years, local and international student numbers in British universities will increase and students in Business and Management will be at the helm of that growth.  I would like to help enlarge BAM’s global reach and use capacity building and education to transform lives by acting as a catalysis to organise more capacity building workshops for our members.
