Vote Now : BAM Council Election - January 2025 - December 2027
From January 2025, five elected places on the Council of the British Academy of Management will fall vacant for 3-year terms of office beginning 1st of January 2025 until the 31st of December 2027.
We are delighted to see that thirteen candidates have been nominated, representing a diverse range of research backgrounds and interests and indicating the level of enthusiasm within our membership to contribute directly to the work of the Academy.
Members of the British Academy of Management are entitled to vote in the current Council Elections and may vote for 5 candidates.
These elections are important as they will decide who will serve as members of Council and Sub-Committees for the next three years (Jan 2025 - Dec 2027) and will help to shape the Academy’s future.
- The deadline for votes to be returned will be 12:00 British Summer Time on Friday 12th July.
Please note that canvassing is not permitted. Canvassing – of any type – is strictly forbidden to support our core values of Equality, Diversity, Inclusivity and Respect. We expect our BAM community to understand and honour the expectation that candidate statements are the basis upon which members decide where to cast their votes. Candidates – as well as their friends and supporters - must not ask people to vote for them. Failure to observe this rule may result in a candidate being withdrawn from the election.
The Candidates:
Professor Hong T. M. Bui (Professor of Business Education, Director of Research, Innovation & Enterprise, Graduate School of Management, Birmingham City University)
My journey with BAM has been a transformative one. Seven years ago, I quit it, feeling I was not reaping the same benefits as I did with AOM. However, the pressing issue of the ecological crisis has sparked a profound shift in my perspective. I now see the potential for BAM to be as impactful as AOM, eliminating the need for many of us to travel to the US for a similar conference and community. I, from a less-representative category in BAM leadership: Asian female scholars, have eagerly returned to BAM, ready and enthusiastic to contribute to its growth and development.
Furthermore, I would like to serve the BAM Council in the coming term in MKE (Management, Knowledge and Education). My passion lies in working with academics and students to improve the quality of education. I believe that by serving on the BAM Council, I can further this passion and contribute more to the community and society. My philosophy, BEST (business education for social transformation), is a testament to this commitment. Being a well-rounded academic (equally engaging with research, community, and education) and an interdisciplinary scholar enables me to take more creative approaches to building BAM community toward BEST.
Professor Nicholas Burton (Professor, Northumbria University)
I am a Professor in Responsible Business at Northumbria University, committed to the support of others. I currently hold leadership positions as Head, Responsible Business, and Head of Reseaerch and Knowledge Exchange and have built a strong track record of developing impactful early and mid-career researchers.
I can point to active and engaged citizenship through Associate Editor roles at two innovative and highly-rated journals, previous roles as co-chair of the Strategy SIG @ BAM, and I am due to very shortly transition off a 5-year leadership commitment at the Academy of Management, including positions such as DIG Chair and as a member of the DIG relations central committee. I have led the development and management of conference tracks and attracted prestigious conferences to my home institution.
I am now drawn to be of service to BAM Council, and I believe my interests align closely with the AACCB or Research and Publications committees. Depending on which committee I may serve, I expect to contribute to ‘business as usual’, but I am attracted to new projects or ideas, which might include cross-SIG collaboration and trans-disciplinary research, relationships with industry and practice, and providing mentoring and career pathways towards and beyond Professor.

Since 2021, he has been ranked among World's Top 2% Scientists List of outstanding researchers prepared by Elsevier BV, Stanford University, USA. Andrea is also currently associate editor for Management Decision, Business Ethics, the Environment & Responsibility, BRQ Business Research Quarterly, and J of Organizational Change Management. He is also the editor of the book series “Entrepreneurial Behaviour” (Emerald).
If elected, I would like to contribute my editorial expertise on the Research & Publications sub-committee, and in particular focus on developing inclusive opportunities for PhD students and Early Career Researchers, given an extensive experience in organising Doctoral Colloquia (also supported by BAM) in the UK and abroad. I would also like to work on research integrity, focusing on developing training and awareness interventions to support a sustainable, fair, inclusive and ethical academia.
Dr Paul Joseph-Richard (Senior Lecturer in HRM, Ulster University)
I am passionate about fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment in Higher Education, particularly I am interested in promoting disability inclusion in classrooms. My six years, as a co-chair with the Leadership and Leadership Development SIG demonstrate my dedication to the BAM's mission.
If I am fortunate enough to serve in the Academic Affairs of Conference and Capacity Building sub-committee I will deliver on three key areas:
1. PhD Researcher Development & Wellbeing: My research and publications in this area position me to champion initiatives that support PhD researchers' mental health and well-being.
2. Practitioner Engagement: I believe in bridging the gap between research and practice. I will initiate new ways to disseminate research insights to practitioners, making BAM's events more valuable and accessible for more practitioners.
3. Early Career academics’ Development: I am committed to supporting early career researchers and teaching-focused academics through targeted interventions that empower them to thrive in their careers, both in the UK and internationally.
I am confident I can make a meaningful contribution to the sub-committee and the BAM as a whole. Consider supporting my nomination. Thank you.

I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK and a PhD in Management from IIM Calcutta, India. I participated in BAM conferences over the years as a participant and as a reviewer, applied for research funding and chaired a session at the BAM conference. These experiences have provided me with invaluable insights into BAM’s work and its pivotal role in advancing research.
I am nominating myself to work in the BAM Council, as I believe I have the experience and skills required for research and academic leadership, in higher education. If elected, I aim to work towards fostering greater interdisciplinary and international collaboration, enhancing support for early-career researchers, particularly those who find it difficult due to systemic reasons to develop their research. I am committed to leveraging my expertise to contribute meaningfully to BAM's mission and the community.
